Minister Marta Cartabia has called for the government to urgently transpose the EU Directive on Whistleblowing into Italian law.
The comments made in the Senate Chamber follow Italy’s failure to meet the official, now-passed, 17 December 2021 deadline for all EU Member States to fully transpose the Directive into their national legal systems.
Federico Anghelè, Director of NGO The Good Lobby, who along with Transparency International Italia had already raised alarm at the Government’s delay in implementing the Directive said that they were pleased with the Minister’s concern after repeated calls from civil society to take whistleblower protection seriously.
